Rudolf Helmut Sauter

Rudolf Helmut Sauter was born in London in 1895. He was a painter, printmaker, illustrator and poet. Rudolf Helmut Sauter was educated at Harrow School, studying art in London and Munich. His father, George Sauter, was an artist from Bavaria.

Sauter exhibited extensively, including at the Royal Academy and the Royal Scottish Academy, as well as in Paris and New York. His work is held at The National Portrait Gallery.

Sauter illustrated a definitive edition of works by the novelist John Galsworthy, his uncle, whom he also drew in 1927.
