During 2010, Simon spent time painting and living in the south of France where the landscape and light changed his approach and direction in oil painting. From a flat surface to an impasto surface, he was influenced by a more direct approach in applying oil paint, which was heightened during the Pandemic of 2020, where he began painting mostly from life.

Simon is a figurative painter, whose works presently identify with the landscape and visual surroundings of England. Subjects such as whippets and lurchers, the artist’s garden, portraits of friends and family, and the art historical canon all play major roles in his painting process. House flies, pot plants and spiders suggest deeper connections of disequilibrium, as the artist explores themes that evoke climate change and the transience of time.

Simon holds work in several private collections. He lives and works in Preston, Lancashire.
