Julia Midgley
Born in 1948, Julia studied at Northwich School of Art & Design (now Mid Cheshire College F.E.) and Manchester College of Art & Design (Now M.M.U.).
Julia has taught at Northwich School of Art & Design, Manchester Polytechnic, Exeter College of Art & Design, and until her retirement in 2013 was Reader in Documentary Drawing at Liverpool Art School, L.J.M.U.
Julia is a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Painters and Printmakers (R.E.), and The Royal Watercolour Society, (RWS), a past Vice President and now trustee of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts; and member of Chelsea Arts Club.
Drawing from direct observation is the bedrock of Julia’s practice, it informs the images produced in her Cheshire studio whether works on paper, or, etchings. Acting as a fly on the wall she records her observations in sketchbooks. Always interested in movement, anatomy, and medicine, her name has become increasingly associated with Reportage and printmaking.
Her work is exhibited at prestigious galleries and venues in London, Manchester, Liverpool, Cheshire and abroad.
