Jon Buck

Jon Buck completed his degree at Nottingham Art School and a Masters at Manchester School of Art. He was then awarded a year’s Fellowship at Cheltenham School of Art. He is a Member of the Royal West of England Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.

BIOGRAPHY

1951 Born near Bristol
1975 Fine Art foundation course, Cardiff
1976-79 Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham – BA (Hons) Fine Art
1979-80 Manchester Polytechnic – MA Fine Art
1980-81 Awarded a Fellowship – Gloucester College Art and Technology, Cheltenham, Fellow in
Sculpture
1984 Awarded a grant by Southern Arts to become Artist in Residence for the Borough of
Thamesdown, in a regeneration area in Swindon. This led to Buck adopting bronze as his
preferred medium and developing a close collaboration with Pangolin Editions
1990 Elected to Royal West of England Academy
1994 Elected to Royal Society of British Sculptors
1995 Caerphilly Town Centre Enhancement Scheme
1998 Chosen to be part of a team for the enhancement and refurbishment of Deal Pier –
this involved a major public consultation scheme & collaboration with planners and
landscape architects form Kent County. The resulting work won the 1999 Rouse Kent
Award for Public Art
2004 Gave a sculpture workshop at Makerere University, Kampala on behalf to the Ruwenzori
Sculpture Foundation.
2007 Returned to Uganda to undertake further design research into tribal and clan totems for
the Foundation.
2012 Elected Fellow of Royal Society of British Sculptors
