Colin Taylor started work on his Manchester ‘Cityscape’ series in 2011 which eventually led to a highly successful exhibition at Contemporary Six Gallery during June 2015. During that four year project, Colin also worked up a number of large charcoal drawings and smaller pen drawings, many of which were executed in situ. Colin’s approach to a 7 inch square drawing is the same as it is to a 1 metre square painting on canvas; he treats each with the same degree of scrutiny and whilst the former might be a more convenient and portable means of making an image, each work has to stand on its own merits. His drawings are not used as preparation for a painting, but are simply a different method of inquiry, ‘…each image is simply a bridge between what I’ve just done and whatever comes next ‘. This online exhibition of 31 smaller images and 8 larger charcoal drawings from the ‘Cityscapes’ project offers an alternative insight into Colin’s working practice and coincides with his first exhibition in Paris at Galerie Orenda during Oct and Nov this year (2015). Each of these drawings is made on either Bockingford or Saunders Waterfoot archival paper and each is offered for sale unframed.
