Wendy Levy’s career as a gallerist began in 1971 when the Pitcairn Galleries first opened in Knutsford, Cheshire. The founder and proprietor of the gallery was Peter Burdett and under his guidance Wendy learned her gallery skills and eventually took on the gallery as her own.
Pitcairn Galleries showed work by eminent artists including Sir Matthew Smith, L.S. Lowry, Joseph Herman, Albert Houthuesen, David Bomberg, Bernard Meninsky, Elisabeth Frink, as well as the newer artists of the day such as William Ralph Turner, Geoffrey Key and Dawn Rowland (now FRBS).
Later, Wendy Levy went on to show work by Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Winifred Nicholson and many others from the St Ives School.
On opening her gallery in Didsbury in 2000, Wendy continued to show work by renowned artists but also wanted to help newer artists gain recognition. She represented, nurtured and assisted in establishing the careers of many artists in the north west; one of the earliest was Liam Spencer whose solo shows became so popular that people queued outside the gallery overnight for one of the previews and a client flew in from America to attend the preview.
For almost fourteen years Wendy Levy staged a different exhibition every month at her gallery in Didsbury. This exhausting schedule eventually led her to make the decision to retire from gallery life at the end of 2013.
She now enjoys some well-earned relaxation time whilst continuing to work more leisurely on a one to one basis with her clients as well as showing online exhibitions where paintings can be purchased from the comfort of your own home.
